FAQ

Pelvic floor physical therapy questions, answered

The things most people want to know before their first visit. If you do not see your question here, just ask.

Getting started

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

In Florida you can see a physical therapist directly without a physician referral for an initial period of care. If ongoing treatment is needed, we will coordinate with your OB-GYN, midwife, or primary care provider. Many patients are referred by their providers, but it is not required to get started.

What happens at the first appointment?

Your initial evaluation is 45 minutes, one-on-one. We start by talking through your history, symptoms, and goals. Then we assess posture, breathing, hip and core strength, and movement. With your consent, this may include an external or internal pelvic floor assessment. You leave with a clear picture of what is going on and a plan.

Is an internal exam required?

No. An internal assessment gives the most direct information about the pelvic floor muscles, but it is always optional and always your choice. There is a great deal we can evaluate and treat externally, and we will never move faster than you are comfortable with.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing you can move in, like leggings or athletic wear. We will be assessing how you breathe, bend, squat, and move.

Care and results

How many visits will I need?

It depends on your goals and how long you have had symptoms. Many patients see meaningful change within the first few visits and complete a plan of care over several weeks to a few months. We reassess regularly, and the goal is always to get you independent, not to keep you coming back indefinitely.

Can I bring my baby to appointments?

Absolutely. Babies are always welcome. We will work around feedings and naps as needed.

I am years past childbirth. Is it too late?

Not at all. Pelvic floor concerns can be treated at any age and any stage, whether your symptoms started after a birth decades ago, with menopause, or for reasons unrelated to pregnancy entirely.

Do you treat patients who have never been pregnant?

Yes. Pelvic pain, urgency, leaking, constipation, tailbone pain, and painful intimacy affect women regardless of whether they have had children. You are welcome here.

Payment and logistics

Do you accept insurance?

We do not bill insurance directly. Staying independent of insurance is what makes private, one-on-one 45-minute visits possible. You pay at each visit and receive an itemized superbill to submit to your plan for any out-of-network reimbursement it offers. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.

Where are you located?

The practice is located in Delray Beach, Florida, and serves patients from Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Highland Beach, and across Palm Beach County. Full address and parking details are provided when you book.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule so the time can be offered to another patient. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice and no-shows are charged 50% of the session fee.
